Mikey Garcia vs Errol Spence

Boxing - news

This Tuesday was the official announcement for the Mikey Garcia (39-0, 30KO) and Errol Spence (24-0, 21KO) match up.

The battle is planned for March 16th and will take place at the AT & T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

IBF midfielder champion Errol Spence will defend his title against the four devision champion and WBC belt holder in the lightweight category - Mikey Garcia. The last one will climb upwards in two categories to meet his opponent in a welterweight category with a limit of 147 Ib or approximately 66.68 kg.

Garcia feels very convinced despite the minimum chances given by analysts in his favor. Although he is considered one of the best pound-for-pound boxers, he is an outsider in this competition.

Garcia's first championship title is in weight class up to 126lb (57.15kg), and then he wins titles in three higher categories and reaches super welterweight.

"I wanted the fight with Spence. I'm happy to get these fights, to get it takes a little time and sometimes there are criticisms, but finally it came. I was looking for this fight because I want to leave a legacy, I want to leave my name in the history books of boxing, and that's why I was looking for this fight, it finally arrived and I'm very happy," Garcia told ESPN Deportes.

"At this point in my career I have achieved a lot of things, but I'm still motivated.... I want more, to achieve much more and leave this name stamped down in history - and that's why I looked for this fight. This is the most dangerous fight that exists for me, but I think I have enough to win it, to beat Spence and leave another footprint in boxing.

"Obviously he's bigger than me, he's a natural welterweight, I started in featherweight, at 126 pounds, and I'm now moving up to 147.. it's something that sounds crazy, but I have a lot of skill, I have confidence in my abilities as boxer, my technique, my strategy with my dad and my brother (Eduardo and Robert), the experience that they have as coaches and me as a boxer - it's the best there is, the best that exists and that's why I am confident in taking this fight and know that I have everything to win it."- adds the contender.
